Another day off from work. Planning on getting a bit accomplished but for now listening to Susan Boyle's new CD "The Gift" and drinking coffee. Really a great voice. I usually purchase a new CD around Christmastime. Last year was Andrea Bocelli "My Christmas". Lovely man. Costco has really great prices.
Today I will make the cookie of my youth, Hermits. My grandmother made these every Christmas. She would fill the jar and continue filling it as we ate these wonderful cookies made of spice, raisins and nuts. I make these for myself as well as my Mom. I am always hoping she will get a bit of Christmas nostalgia of her mother. Unfortunately they never turn out as she remembers them. Do you think it is not the cookie as much as the memory? Maybe this year they will taste more like that Christmas when we were at my Grandmothers. I really wish my Grandmother was alive to critique them. I am sure she put something of herself in them that I do not have or at least have not found yet.
Happy week of Christmas.
That happens to me all the time. I know it's the same recipe, but things just tasted better when I was a child.
ReplyDeleteLOL...and another thing is that my mom was not a good cook and I know that I'm using the same recipe that she did....
p.s. Susan has a beautiful voice and I luv listening to her.
You have a delightful blog here! I love the photo of your grandchildren. I've never had Hermits, but I suspect it may be as you say - the memory more than the cookie itself. Thanks for stopping by my blog and saying hello, and I hope you have a wonderful holiday with your family.
ReplyDeleteI've heard of hermits but I don't think I've ever had them! They sound delicious...I will have to hunt up a recipe unless you'd care to share yours? I won't be offended if you'd rather not. But it would make a great blog post and then everyone could try them!
ReplyDeleteI agree...Susan Boyle does have a beautiful voice.
