Food for thought.....

My neighbors have decided to move to northern California. The husband is originally from there. I think they are really excited. They are older but so ready for the move. Life is different there. They said they could breathe easier. It is humid here in the south.....

Magnolia trees are great here in the south.

This really has me thinking that if we do not make decisions when we can then we may miss the chance. I will be 57 this year. Work time is not very much. Even if I work until 67 that is only 10 yrs. I need to make some grown up decisions about me. What I can do now to prepare for a life with very little income. Working in a small medical practice does not offer me a "pension". 401-Ks are a little bit rough right now and should we really count on them. I am ready for some creative thinking. I have come across some interesting sites lately about finances, spending, not spending, living without buying something new, etc. Some of these are extreme. One girl lived in London and was getting her food out of the garbage. Her take on it made some sense but what it boiled down to was getting your food out of the garbage. Yuck. So what the common woman should do is think before spending. Start the "savings account" like I did when I had my first job, age 14. Put a little money away each day. Go on a budget. I could probably right now eat from my pantry for a month or so. I may not like it but I would not starve.

Traveling with a dog....

When we went on the 2 day car trip I had to take Daisy with me. She is part Maltese. Good natured dog. Easy to travel with but the problems occur when you are trying to find a place to stay the night (all Motel 6 take dogs), eating in a restaurant, going in shops, etc. When it is hot out, you have to be very careful about leaving the dog in the car. Find a shady spot, keep windows 1/4th down and make sure she has water. Hopefully it will be cool enough but you really have to make sure. My dog does not bark in the car. She knows I will be coming back but she will absolutely not be quiet in the motel room. She thinks you have left her for good. No security at all. I would really like to know what problems other people encounter when they travel and how they get around it. I see so many that have pets and it seems that they travel with them a lot. I saw a lady with 2 small dogs in a little stroller like pet carrier, so cute, another one had her dog in a sling like you would use with a baby. The world of dog/people travelers is very interesting. I really would rather my dog stay home where I know she is safe.

Went on a 2 day getaway with my Mom. We went to Helen, GA and then on to Blue Ridge. We both really loved that town. It was a good time. Came back on the 4th. We saw fireworks in Chattanooga, TN Friday night. I took some great pictures of fireworks. I learned something new about my camera. It does a whole lot more than just automatic pics.

A sweet girl in my office found out yesterday while going in for ultrasound to find out sex of baby that the little thing is not viable. She was 17 weeks and this was her 3rd child. I know they are all so disappointed. I pray God will heal them quickly and her precious children will be a comfort. We have 2 other girls who are pregnant and doing fine. I pray God will take care of them.

Another girl in our office lost her mother on Sunday. She had Alzheimer's and was just diagnosed with cancer about 2 to 3 weeks ago. She passed very soon.

Like I always say you never know what will be brought to your doorstep or what is going on with others that you see or talk with daily. Our work place is a mecca of situations; some good and some not so good. A lot of people keep things to themselves. We should not be too hard on people because we never know what circumstances they are going through.
