Start Your Day with Coffee and a Prayer

Nice Weekend

Had a very nice day. Went to the movies with some friends. Saw My Sister's Keeper. My friend read the book and shared it with me when we walked around our neighborhood. The movie was a little different. Won't give it away. Cameron Diaz did a good job of playing the Mom role. It was a good movie. Came home and called my Mom, she came down for supper. I made a pasta salad and some chicken I had marinated in a lemon herb "out of a bottle" mixture. It was good. Had some raspberry tea and for dessert a mixture of coconut cream pudding (less milk) and coolwhip with strawberries on top. Using less milk and coolwhip makes it like a mousse. Yummy.

I do not always cook. I think it is because I have no one lately to share it with. It is much more enjoyable to have someone over and fix a special meal for. I need to invite people over more often. I just get so caught up in work and I am selfish with the weekends. This can lead to a lonely life. I will work on this.

Yesterday was a great day also. Stayed home. Did some cleaning out. Watched a movie on Netflix (Oscar and Lucinda). Finished a book (Pearl S. Buck--The Three Daughters of Madame Liang). Both were really good. I have only read The Good Earth by Ms. Buck (see picture to the right), I need to read more of her works. She was a grand writer.

You can count on change.

God is the Master of the Universe

We never know what each second or minute of our life will bring. We think we have control but we do not. Only our heavenly Father knows. Today 2 people who were well known celebrities passed away. God knew their life was going to end today but they did not. What about the others that passed from this life today, all ages, backgrounds, and cultures. The main common thread is that they had life. At least the life that we know in this world. As I will say again and again make sure you did your best, care for others and don't be afraid to say I love you.

Joy in the morning.

Had a good night's sleep. Just wanted to say good morning and keep up with my posting. One of my favorite sites is Fallingwater. I have only seen pictures but I can imagine. May God bless us all and keep us in his hands today. My Mom called last night; a friend of ours living in Washington, DC missed that commuter train by about 5 min, it was her regular way of getting home. God kept her in his hand along with others I am sure. Keep up with the I love yous.

My Daddy on motorcycle in Baltimore, MD in about 1948 or 1949. I think he was about 18.

My Daddy is no longer here for me to say I love you and talk with. He died early at age 57, I will be 57 in October. If he was here now I wonder if I could open up and talk with him about things I never discussed when he was alive. I wonder if I could tell him what he did wrong. I wonder if it would matter to him now. I wonder. But wondering only makes tears swell up in my eyes. I am saddened that my adult life with him was so short and that it took me so long to really see him as a person. One thing I do know no matter how old I am is that my parents are my parents; not friends, buddies, or peers but those people in my life that raised me. As a child no matter what your age or how many children you have of your own there is always that pecking order. Parent and child. We must respect them for who they are and the position God gave them. Sure we would like to tell them what they did wrong and how we feel about it but it would not make a bit of difference. One thing I know, they did the best they could with what they knew at the time. I miss you Daddy. If I had one more minute of your time, I would just say I love you.

Happy Father's Day to all you men out there doing the best you can with what you know at the time.

Thursday evening.

I bought myself a present today. A brand spanking new 23 " monitor. So very nice. Now I just need a more comfy chair. I love to read all of the blogs out there, surf the net, look for new and interesting ideas, watch TV and movies. In fact I should just let go of my basic cable. I feel more productive in front of the computer instead of the TV. Really there is not much on the tube now a days.

Wow it was really hot and humid. We did our walk and I was drenched. I need to cut the grass but gave myself a break tonight. I will do it tomorrow or this weekend. It can go for a couple of more days. So nice coming in the house with the air conditioning. When I was a kid we did not have it but we did have an attic fan. I guess our tolerance was better or it was not as hot or both. There are different opinions about that. All I know is thank you for air conditioning.

One of the websites I really enjoy is garden junk on I love seeing pictures of gardens and "trash to treasure" garden junk. Lots of fun. In fact that is how I found Blogger. I guess I am a little behind the times apparently.

Everyone take care. Remember to say your "I love yous". Take care of your family and friends.

The Wedding of Jonah and Amber in Puerto Rico May 31, 2009

Good Weekend, Now a new Day

The wedding party was a success. All is well with the FiddleSticks. Cake turned out well. Could only do 2 layers, the 3rd one started to split. It was a hit. There was lots of food; barbecue made by Mr. Cagle as well as his homemade BBQ sauce. Plenty of snacks, turkey, beans, meatballs, etc. We also had "blonde" sangria which was great. I have to get the recipe. Lots of beer and wine. Everyone had a great time. The wedding couple looked beautiful. My daughter, son-in-law, grandgirls as well as their father and most of his family. Lots of friends. My Mom and all the Cagle clan. We were all festive in our "tropical prints".

Sunday was a nice day. Stayed home and cleaned out a closet. Will be taking those things to Goodwill store. 2 very large containers worth. Amazing how much you really do not use that is stuffed in your closet. Also started on a flower bed outside, it needed weeding, and I am putting down newspaper as a weed retardent, arranging pavers on top and then putting down pebbles and mulch. I may use that new kind made from recycled tires??? It could be pricey. We will see. It was really humid yesterday. I was drenched and did not even stay outside that long at a time.
But it really felt good to do some yard work.

Having some coffee and getting ready for work. The sun is coming up and it looks like a glorious day. God is good.

Time is flying by...

Yes it seems time is going by so quickly. It is already the middle of June. Really getting hot here in Georgia. I need to do some yard work besides cutting the grass but whew the heat zaps me.

Tomorrow is my son and new daughter-in-law's wedding party. Elopement has some pluses. You can really focus on the "party". Everyone is bringing something and it is being held at the new couple's house. Maybe 100 people in and out starting in the afternoon. Tropical theme. I am making a lemon ice box cake. Yummy. Not too heavy. This will be the groom's cake so to speak. We will have a grand time.

Well it is time for our nightly walk. My dog Daisy (part Maltese) is whining beside me, she is ready to go. She knows it is time.

Spending time with grandgirls.

Spent some good time with grandgirls last night and most of today. They were adorable. I washed more dishes than I do in a week. There is a lot of cooking and dirty dishes when there is more than one person in the house. Don't forget toys and stuff pulled out as well. I straightened up before meeting their Mom (my daughter) so when I came home I wasn't so sad. I love them so much. I am pooped.

Today is a little rainy here in Georgia. It has cooled off a bit. It really was hot the beginning of the week. It is June and hot weather is coming soon.

How come it is so hard to keep your mouth closed and not say things you regret. I spent most of today saying to myself that I was going to let something go and then low and behold I spat it out before I could even think. It was my opinion and it was a valid one but my boss disagreed and so that is that. I feel sort of bad now. I shouldn't, but I do. I think the reason is because no one else in the meeting saw my view point, if they did they did not speak up. That always seems to be the case. It really was not a big deal, it just makes me feel insignificant. Even when you think you have good ideas, not everyone always agrees with you. Just shake it off and go on.

So tomorrow is Friday and it is time to think about going to see my grandgirls. It has been a while and I miss them badly. They are so cute, especially the 2 yr old, she says the funniest things. She is growing up too fast.

Also this weekend I need to get together with my girlfriends. I have some Lemon soap I bought in Idaho Springs, CO. They have the neatest shops and I love to stop there on the way to Grand Lake, that is right next to Rocky Mountain National Park. I adore that area. Clean, uncluttered, slow moving and beautiful.

I will just sit here a while and look at my pics. Next year I hope to see those mountains again.

Well today I am blogging. I have just become acquainted with this form of communication. I have been reading other sites and really enjoyed getting to know the writers, where they live, what they see and how their lives are moving along just like everyone else. The joys and heartaches we see everyday are so similar but of course a little different.

This morning on my way to work I saw a dog on the side of the road. He was panting and looked like he had been traveling all night. I prayed for that dog and for all the other strays on the road, human and animal. I did not stop for that dog. I just let him be, continuing to wander. Maybe just maybe he was on his way home.

I only have to travel about 4 miles to work but in that short time I encounter many emotions. Some days like today a tear comes to my eye and I hope and pray I can do some good for all those I see. We are all going through life with ups and downs but I believe we are put here to help one another. The helping can be just a smile. That sure can put someone in a good mood. That of course can cause a ripple effect which could give you a feeling of hope. Hope is what we all need and can give to others if we try.

Stay positive and keep your faith.
